Diwali 2026 Snack Guide: Namkeen, Sweets and Puja Essentials to Order Now

October 21, 2026 · 5 min read

Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday, November 8, with Lakshmi Puja that evening. For most families that means a full week of guests, puja thalis, gift boxes and bowls of namkeen that never seem to stay full. If you live far from an Indian grocery, getting the right snacks and sweets in time takes a little planning.

This guide covers what to stock for each part of the celebration, with the items we carry for each, plus shipping timing so your order arrives before the festivities start.

When to order

We pack retail orders in Riverside, California within 1–3 business days, and delivery time after that depends on where you live. For Diwali on November 8, aim to order by the end of October — the earlier the better if you're on the East Coast or ordering for Dhanteras.

Shipping is free on retail orders over $100 and a flat $16.50 below that, so it usually makes sense to place one bigger order for puja, guests and gifts together.

Puja essentials and prasad

The Lakshmi Puja thali traditionally includes simple sweets that are offered first and then shared with everyone as prasad. Patasha (batasha), sweet kheel, sweet makhana and thread mishri are the classics, and they're also easy to divide into small prasad bags for visitors.

Mithai for guests and gift boxes

Besan laddoos and burfi are the centerpiece of many Diwali sweet boxes. Chana ladoo and chana burfi are made with roasted gram flour, ghee and sugar, and peanut ladoo with roasted peanuts and jaggery is a lighter, nutty option to mix in. Arrange a few of each in a box with a diya and you have a ready gift for neighbors and coworkers.

Namkeen for the snack table

Every Diwali visit comes with a plate of namkeen next to the sweets. A good spread mixes textures and flavors: a fine, savory bhujia, a sweet-and-tangy khatta meetha, and a rich mixture with nuts. Navratan mixture covers all three in one bag, and the 1kg size is the easy choice if you're hosting most evenings.

  • Savory and fine: aloo bhujia
  • Sweet and tangy: khatta meetha
  • Something special: kaju (cashew) mixture
  • A bit of everything: navratan mixture

Tea-time cookies for visitors

Chai is never far away during Diwali week, and a plate of good cookies keeps it company. Bonn's Cashew and Pista Gudees come in sealed 8-packs, so you can open one at a time and keep the rest crisp — or tuck single packs into gift bags. Kaju pista cookies are another festive favorite.

Shortcuts: ready-made bundles

Short on time? Our bundles are priced about 10% below buying each item separately and double as simple gifts. The Chai-Time Bundle pairs namkeen, buttery cookies and tamarind candy; the Namkeen Sampler gives you three Priniti favorites; and the Pickle Trio is a thoughtful gift for anyone who loves achaar with their festive meals.
